Brazil aims for post-Zika tourism boom

Brazil declares Zika emergency is over
The Zika health emergency is over, Brazil claims, 18 months after thousands of cases of the mosquito-borne virus that caused severe birth defects such as microcephaly. Worries about the disease prompted a wave of travel cancellations to Brazil, the Caribbean and other affected areas.
The US-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and others warned that women who were pregnant or were considering pregnancy should avoid travel to affected countries.
Brazil launched a mosquito eradication campaign in response to the outbreak, action that helped to dramatically reduce cases of Zika, according to the country’s health ministry.
From January to mid-April, there were 95% fewer cases than in the same period last year.
