Harmony of the Seas to have room for 5,479 passengers
Royal Caribbean International has unveiled its third new-generation Oasis-class ship Harmony of the Seas, which will take to the water in April next year.
It is one of three that will be introduced over the next 18 months, the others being the Quantum-class Anthem of the Seas and Ovation of the Seas, to debut in April 2015 and April 2016, respectively.
Harmony is said to be the largest ship in the world, spanning 16 decks and featuring 2,747 staterooms, with room for a total of 5,479 passengers at a time based on double occupancy. That is bigger than the current record holders, Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas and Oasis of the Seas.
The ship’s highlights include three multi-storey waterslides descending over a park ten decks below; a new Bionic Bar on the Royal Promenade staffed by dancing robot bartenders; RFID wristband technology will give passengers access to their staterooms; and fast Internet speeds.
Some staterooms on Harmony of the Seas will be the biggest of any found on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis-class ships, while interior accommodation will be fitted with “virtual balconies” to ensure each stateroom comes with a view. Solo travellers can take up studio staterooms.
Suite guests can get an even more exclusive experience with suites-only restaurant Coastal Kitchen and a full-service Suite Sun Zone sundeck.
For families there is a handcrafted carousel, classic games arcade, Starbucks café and climbing play area. The new ship will also see the introduction of new dining concepts including the Izumi Hibachi & Sushi with its teppanyaki menu, Sabor Modern Mexican and Wonderland Imaginative Cuisine. The ship will be demarcated into seven neighbourhoods.
