Göteborg Landvetter sees development of 2mn sq m of land
The biggest construction project at Göteborg Landvetter Airport since it was built in the mid-1970s has begun. The next phase of Airport City – an area covering 2 million square metres of land – is underway.
Around 250,000 square metres of land, equivalent to 30 football pitches, will be terraced for the development of new facilities in warehousing, logistics and offices as part of the phase, called Logistics Park 1.
The area now under construction is located between the motorway and DB Schenker’s existing logistics facility, on the right-hand side of the road up to the airport terminal.
“With the investments we are now making at Göteborg Landvetter Airport, we are further developing the airport as a hub for all of western Sweden,” said Karl Wistrand, chief executive of Swedavia Real Estate. “This is a major step in the development of the area around the airport, which will create growth potential both for airport operations and for the region in general.”
Contract work on the terracing has begun and will be under way for about 18 months. The first building is expected to be completed in 2017.
The project involves buildings for logistics operations with about 100,000 square metres of floor space to be constructed in Logistics Park 1. The facilities are being developed in a joint venture between Swedavia and logistics firm Bockasjö. There is also land in the vicinity where Swedavia has the potential to develop 30,000 square metres of space for operations and offices.
