Riga sees 28.7% fewer people arriving at its port
The number of passengers arriving in Riga by ferry and cruise ship tumbled 28.7% year-on-year in 2015, the Latvian capital’s port has revealed.
The Freeport of Riga, which is located on the bank of the Daugava River in the city centre, saw 526,243 passengers in 2015.
However, the 69,164 cruise passengers that is part of this figure was up 13.7% from the previous year. The total figure mainly reflects Estonian ferry giant Tallink scaling down its operations on the Riga-Stockholm line to one sailing every two days since August 2014. Riga has scheduled passenger ferry traffic only with Stockholm.
In 2014, Riga port served 737,865 passengers, down 11.9% from 2013, including 60,840 cruise passengers.
