DoubleTree by Hilton debuts in Soviet-era timewarp
Hilton has just opened a new property in Minsk, under its DoubleTree by Hilton brand. The hotel is the latest in a string of upmarket properties in the Belarusian capital.
Minsk is largely ignored by tourists but is attracting an increasing number of business travellers and international conferences. Its large, Soviet-bloc style buildings, monument of Lenin in Independence Square, Museum of History of the Great Patriotic War, spotless metro stations, opera and ballet theatre and countless hammer-and-sickle emblems make it ideal for those interested in the Soviet Union.
Until recently major international hotel brands shunned Minsk, but Marriott opened its second property there earlier this year and IHG has a hotel with its Crowne Plaza brand.
Newest is now the upper upscale DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Minsk with 193 rooms and suites, situated next to the Galleria Minsk shopping and entertainment complex in the city centre.
