Bavaria getting more tourists than ever

More than 90 million beds booked for first time
For the first time ever, Bavarian hotels and guest houses broke the 90 million barrier in 2016 as this number of beds was booked, the German state’s tourism ministry reveals.
Despite poor visitor numbers at Oktoberfest, caused mainly by security concerns, Bavaria is attracting more tourists than ever.
Around 35 million people visited the region in 2016, up 3.5% from 2015, and overnights were up 3%, making the tourism industry “an unbelievable economic boon for Bavaria,” commented Bavaria tourism minister Ilse Aigner.
Tourists spend €35 billion a year, benefiting more than half a million people in the state who rely on tourism for their livelihood. Spas and health retreats hosted a quarter of all overnight bookings.
