Arabian Travel Market scheduled for April in Dubai
Bahrain’s tourism industry is expected to be worth $1 billion by 2020, according to figures released ahead of the Arabian Travel Market 2017, scheduled for April 24 to 27 in Dubai.
In Q3 2016, Bahrain saw an 8.4% rise in inbound traffic, with a peak of 1.4 million arrivals during the month of August.
The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibition Authority thinks the country will welcome 15.8 million annual visitors in 2018 – a 36.2% increase on current figures – placing it on track to reach its $1 billion target by 2020.
Tourism growth is anticipated to be driven mostly by the leisure sector, which should rise in terms of value by 4.3% per year to $3.2 billion in 2026, as well as business travel, which is expected to generate $581.8 million a year by 2026.
The focus is on source markets in Europe and Asia, as the authority works with hotels, tour operators and cruise lines to achieve its objectives. STR Global estimates there are 12,641 rooms in the country and a pipeline of 4,187 more.
