Finnish media reports suggest talks had progressed
International Airlines Group, owner of British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus and Vueling, says it is not in talks to buy the Finnish flag carrier Finnair.
Reports appeared in the Finnish media on Thursday saying that talks between the two sides had progressed.
“We haven’t been in any discussions with Finnair”, an IAG spokesperson told Reuters.
The reports in Finland pushed Finnair shares higher by as much as 6%, before paring gains to trade at around 2%.
Experts have argued that Finland should lower its stake to open the way for alliances and deals. Analysts say that Finnair would complement IAG well, especially now it has reversed its fortunes and is on track to post an annual profit after deep cuts.
