Avalon Waterways creates first Asia brochure

Line’s first brochure dedicated to river cruises in Asia
Avalon Waterways has released its first brochure dedicated to Asia river cruises. It includes details of new itineraries on Burma’s Irrawaddy River, which have already started sailing.
“Our itineraries along the Irrawaddy are unique,” J Patrick Clark, managing director, commented at WTM last week. “The small size of the ship and its shallow draft allows us to sail into the north Irrawaddy, where the dramatic cliffs are more reminiscent of scenery along the Yangtze.”
He claimed: “No one else is doing that part of the river. Bookings have been great – it’s the type of itinerary that appeals to a more experienced traveller.”
The newly released Asia brochure also features the Mekong. Avalon deploys two of its own Suite Ships in south-east Asia, which carry 36 passengers each, Avalon Myanmar and Avalon Siem Reap. These vessels have wall-to-wall panoramic windows in every suite, measuring 4.3 metres wide, transforming the living space into an expansive balcony.
Avalon also has allocations on other ships in the region.
Clark said that the Asia program had evolved to broaden the horizons of loyal guests who had cruised with the line in Europe: “We have many past passengers coming to Asia now. We know they enjoy the Avalon product and are looking for new experiences.”
He added that it was important for Avalon to have its own fleet in the region: “For our brand to grow, we need to build our own vessels, built to our own standards. So that if a guest has cruised with us in Europe, and then they go to Asia, they can be assured of the same quality. They want an adventurous experience, but they want to end the day with a good meal and a comfortable bed.”
