Arlanda tower to be unique apartment

Five winners will get the chance to spend a night there
After standing empty for 15 years, the former ramp tower at Stockholm Arlanda is getting a new life. It has been converted into an apartment decorated by Swedish artist Cilla Ramnek.
Five winners from Sweden and across Europe will get the chance to spend a night in the tower in a competition carried out by the airport and holiday rental firm HomeAway.
The former control tower, located next to two of the take-off and landing runways, will be host to the only accommodation of its kind in the world.
Once the worksite for parking arriving aircraft, the old tower is now an apartment with almost 35 square metres of space and its own kitchen as well as a panoramic view of the runway. The apartment is decorated mainly with brands that are available to buy at the airport.
“I accepted this assignment because I found the tower setting extraordinarily cool in a way I really like. Both aesthetically and also I thought it had an air of abandonment, something I have always been intrigued by. It’s among the most fun environments I have ever worked with,” Ramnek said.
Winners will also get VIP service on arrival, a visit to the flight tower and behind-the-scenes access at the airport. The competition is open until July 30.
