Antonio Vázquez receives AED Award Manager of the Year 2010

Antonio Vázquez, Chairman of Iberia and the IAG Group, has been chosen as the winner of the AED Manager Award for 2010, an award presented annually since 1992 by the Spanish Association of Directors (AED).

The winners are chosen by a jury comprising prestigious figures from the worlds of business, academia, institutions and the media.

The jury, chaired by Isidro Fainé, Honorary President and Founder of the AED and Chairman of La Caixa, was impressed by Antonio Vázquez’s managerial performance during the 2010 financial year and, in particular, his leading role at the helm of Iberia in the merger operation with British Airways, which resulted in the creation of the IAG Group, the third-largest European airline and the sixth-largest worldwide in terms of turnover.

Antonio Vázquez has been Chairman of Iberia since 9 July 2009 and of the IAG Group since January 2011. However, Vázquez’s relationship with Iberia began in 2005 when he was appointed a Director of the company’s Board, represening Logista — then one of Iberia’s core shareholders — a position he held until 2007. Prior to becoming Chairman of Iberia, Vázquez worked as a board member of Telefonica International, as Chairman and CEO of Altadis, previously Tabacalera, as well as for the Osborne and Domecq Groups

The AED Manager of the Yeaer Award was created in 1992 and has since been awarded each year to the most outstanding manager in the business and institutional fields. All of the candidates for the award are nominated by AED members.
