Cabin crew call strike for a full week
Another round of strikes has been called at British Airways for a full week in March. It is the latest step by Unite, the union representing the airline’s Heathrow-based ‘mixed fleet’ cabin crew.
The mixed fleet crew, who make up around 15% of BA’s total and who say they are protesting their ‘poverty pay’, will strike from 00:01 on Friday, March 3, to 23:59 on Thursday March 9. BA says it is sure that all passengers will still be able to reach their destinations.
The announcement was made “on the same day as British Airways’ owner, IAG Group, reported a rise in pre-tax profits by nearly a third to GBP£2 billion,” the Unite union said in a statement.
Oliver Richardson, Unite’s national officer, added: “It is clear from today’s GBP£2 billion rise in IAG’s pre-tax profits that British Airways can afford to address low pay among its mixed fleet cabin crew and settle this dispute.”
