Third consecutive record year brings 7,200 new guest rooms.

The Rezidor Hotel Group today announces a third consecutive record year of openings. In 2010, the company opened 7,200 rooms, exceeding its results for 2008 (6,500 rooms) and 2009 (7,100 rooms). Among the highlights of Rezidor’s 2010 openings were flagships such as the Radisson Blu Hotel Milan, the Radisson Blu Gautrain Hotel in Johannesburg’s financial district and the Radisson Royal Hotel Moscow, formerly one of Stalin’s legendary Seven Sisters skyscrapers.

Rezidor also concluded a portfolio deal in April by taking over the management of the properties of Reval Hotels, the biggest hotel chain in the Baltics (2,300 rooms in 10 hotels in Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania and Russia). Also in 2010, 18 hotels were opened under the Park Inn brand, including projects in Frankfurt, Oslo and Stockholm, traditionally Rezidor’s home markets. “Throughout the global downturn we have kept our growth pace and momentum”, said Puneet Chhatwal, the hotel group’s senior vice president and chief development officer.

“Our pipeline is ever-expanding and the Radisson Blu and Park Inn by Radisson European pipelines are the largest in their respective market segments.” The company has 20,000 rooms under development across Europe, the Middle East and Africa that are scheduled to come online during the next three years. Over 95% of this pipeline consists of fee-based management and franchised contracts. Chhatwal said that the company’s strategy includes strong focus on the emerging markets of Russia and the CIS and Africa.

Two launches await Sweden too. In Stockholm, Rezidor will open the 414-room Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel adjacent to Scandinavia’s biggest congress centre, while a new Park Inn is scheduled for a first-quarter opening in Malmö.
