LATAM Airlines workers to walk out in Peru in two weeks
More strikes are being planned in South America, seemingly to tie in with the World Cup in Brazil. The latest to be announced is by LATAM Airlines maintenance workers in Peru who say they strike on the high-traffic dates of June 26 and 27. They demand higher wages.
The protest by 200 workers at LATAM’s local unit Lan Peru is likely to stop all of the airline’s flights in Peru, union leader Oscar Angosto said. He added that workers in other countries could also strike in the near future.
“If there’s no solution, this won’t be the only strike,” he said. “There will be a strike in all of South America.”
However, a Peruvian pilots’ union said it would not join the strike.
