Hotel chains test voice-activated devices
Best Western Hotels & Resorts is the latest hotel company to experiment with Amazon Dot devices in its hotels, both for guests and for employee use.
The voice-activated devices can be used to ease communications within the hotel, such as ordering room service or reporting issues or problems in the room. Housekeeping can use it to say if the room is clean or if any maintenance is needed.
“I think, in the future, that’s how the guest might want to interact with us,” Best Western Hotels & Resorts CEO David Kong tells Skift. “Amazon Alexa, to me, is the future. Right now, people are into messaging, but in the future it’s going to be artificial intelligence and voice activation.”
Wynn Resorts revealed last year that it was adding Amazon Echo speakers in more than 4,700 rooms in a hotel in Las Vegas. Marriott International, meanwhile, is testing Amazon and Apple voice-controlled devices at a hotel in Boston.
