Airline to offer onboard gourmet popcorn

Garrett Mix is produced in airline’s home city
Chicago-based United Airlines is serving up something new to passengers from this month – gourmet cheese-and-caramel popcorn. Known as Garrett Mix and produced by Garrett Popcorn (also based in Chicago), it will be available on flights longer than two hours.
Garrett Mix was first introduced decades ago but is a firm Garrett fan favorite. The popcorn maker is said to use half a million kilos of cheese and 20,000 bags of brown sugar each year to make enough of the mix. But it’s not a free snack; it will cost $3.99 a bag.
Meanwhile, United says it will offer a new kids’ snack pack, the Ben Flyin’ Snack Box, with turkey stick, animal crackers, apple sauce and a game.
And it has set a date, July 1, for the debut of its new coffee service, with Illy on all United flights and in United Club lounges around the world. At the end of last year, the airline chose the Italian coffee firm after a long search for a new vendor began in autumn 2015.
