airberlin to make 10th special flight to extreme north
airberlin is now offering the world’s only flight to the North Pole for the 10th time, to take off from Berlin-Tegel on May 1.
The 12-hour adventure, operated in cooperation with the German company AirEvents, will allow passengers to explore the unique Arctic landscape from the air in an A330-200.
The route runs along the Norwegian coast to Spitzbergen and continues to the North Pole where all passengers will toast their arrival at the North Pole with a glass of champagne.
A 360° circle around the top of the world will then be followed by a return route over northeast Greenland and Iceland.
The airline says that “the polar flight will not only offer visual, but also in terms of taste many highlights: in addition to breakfast, a morning snack and an elegant dinner, airberlin will be offering an open bar concept on this special flight with select alcoholic beverages available starting at noon. Onboard readings will put the passengers in an arctic mood.”
The flight is being booked by passengers from all over the world, the airline adds, and is a favourite for wedding anniversaries and big birthdays. Tickets start at €499.
“The highlight in the history of all the North Pole flights was undoubtedly when I married a couple over the North Pole region in 2015,” says Wilhelm Heinz, captain at airberlin.
