Board quicker on American Airlines without big bags
American Airlines has announced that passengers carrying one personal item small enough to fit under the seat will be allowed to board earlier than most of the other flyers. Those boarding together with bigger bags and rolling suitcases will board later.
Passengers with a small item such as a purse, backpack or computer bag that will fit under the seat will board right after premium passengers and before the rest.
The airline says this will speed up the boarding process, allowing flights to take off sooner and boosting the carrier’s on-time performance. It has already trialed the process at several airports and it will now apply to all flights with immediate effect.
Rising boarding times have been common at airport gates since airlines began charging fees for checked-in baggage.
