Three weekly non-stop Delhi-Copenhagen flights
New business and leisure opportunities in India have opened up for Danes now that Air India has confirmed it will launch three weekly non-stop flights between Copenhagen and Delhi on September 16.
The route was announced at the Danish embassy in Delhi. It follows some confusion in the media over where in the Nordics the airline would fly to, but Air India says there will also be a new, separate Delhi-Stockholm route starting in mid-August.
The Copenhagen route, with one of Air India’s new Boeing 787 Dreamliners, is the result of several years of negotiations, Copenhagen Airport says, including input from state authorities in Denmark and India.
Transport minister Ole Birk Olesen visited Delhi in late February together with the management of Copenhagen Airport, and in April he met Air India in Denmark.
“International accessibility and efficient flight connections play an important role in relation to growth and job creation in Denmark, and this is a competitive parameter when it comes to attracting businesses,” the minister said.
As a Star Alliance member, Air India will work together with SAS and others to fly passengers from all over Northern Europe to the Scandinavian carrier’s hubs in Copenhagen and Stockholm and from there on to India.
It is estimated that the all-year route to New Delhi will increase Denmark’s annual GDP by DKK 259 million (€35 million), according to a calculation model developed by Damvad Analytics.
