Sources say the cuts will be made over three years

Air France management has met employee representatives to reveal its plans to cut around 800 jobs over three years, Reuters news agency quotes sources as saying. Some 500 ground staff and 300 air stewards and stewardesses will lose their jobs.

Frederic Gagey, the airline’s chief executive, also presented a “salary moderation” plan at the meeting.

Air France-KLM has already slashed 8,000 jobs over the last three years as part of a restructuring plan. The group currently employs about 95,000 people but is suffering from competition from both low-cost and state-backed airlines.

Further details of the new cost-cutting measures will be presented to unions on February 5. As previously reported, the group dismissed a report in the French newspaper Le Figaro earlier this month which said the company was planning 5,000 job cuts.
