Airline expects “slight improvement” in traffic today

Air France is expecting a slight improvement in traffic today, Friday September 19, enabling it to operate over 45% of its flights, given that less than 60% of pilots are planning to strike on the day. However, the SNPL pilots union is warning it may vote to extend the strike “indefinitely” if its demands are not met, the news agency Reuters reports.

Jean-Louis Barber, head of the union’s Air France section, told the newspaper Le Monde it could vote to prolong the strike beyond September 22.

“The CEO of Air France cannot run the company without his pilots,” he said.

The pilots are striking over the airline’s plans to expand the operations of its low-cost unit Transavia, setting up bases in other countries as it fights fierce competition.
