Anticipated consolidation in airline industry postponed

The much discussed purchase of Alitalia by Air France-KLM will probably now be delayed until at least 2014. The Franco-Dutch giant has an option to take control of the Italian airline, in which it has a 25% stake.
“It’s unlikely in 2013,” chief executive Jean-Cyril Spinetta said after Air France-KLM’s annual general meeting.
Meanwhile, a partnership between the Turkish and Polish national carriers has been cancelled. Turkish Airlines announced that was withdrawing from talks on a link-up with LOT. The talks had been progressing for some months. The Turkish carrier explained that such a deal would have made a limited contribution to its medium-to-long term plans.
