Two cabin crew unions threaten holiday period strike
Air France says it deplores a call for strike action by two cabin crew unions for the July 27 to August 2, even after the airline proposed “a favourable agreement”.
On Friday morning, management presented the unions with a proposal to clarify and complete the draft cabin crew collective agreement for the period from November 2016 to March 2018.
In addition to improvements contained in the agreement, the new proposal contains advances that “respond to a large extent” to the demands made by the UNAC union, which postponed its strike notice, as well as the unions UNSA PNC and the SNPNC/FO.
“It is too soon to know the precise impact of this strike action on the flight schedule,” Air France says on its website. “Based on the application of the Diard law, Air France will have accurate information to enable it to inform customers 24 hours before their departure.”
The airline says it is mobilised to ensure the majority of its long-haul schedule during the period of the strike, but there may be disruption on the short and medium-haul networks. Air France flights operated by other airlines, including HOP!, KLM and Delta, as well as Transavia flights, are not affected.
“Air France management has gone as far as it could go with the social dialogue, in a spirit of compromise and responsibility with regard to the future of the company and all its staff. The call for strike action is irresponsible in this context and comes at the worst possible time for our customers,” said Frédéric Gagey, Air France CEO.
Air France is offering customers booked on a flight between July 27 and August 2 the possibility to change their trip, whether their flight is cancelled or not. They can bring the trip forward or postpone it to August 3 to 12 at no extra cost. It’s also possible to cancel the trip and receive a non-refundable voucher valid for one year on Air France, Hop! or KLM.
