Agents report increasing trend in GDS bookings

Average length of agency-GDS relationship is 19 years

Bigger numbers of travel agents are seeing an increase in bookings made via GDS channels, according to a new report on the topic released by the US agent association ASTA. The association concludes that this is a sign of a sustained economic recovery. Around 34% of agencies claimed that their GDS bookings were up; 24% said they were down.
In the process of renegotiating GDS contracts, 65% of subscribers said they valued their GDS for its ease of use, while 50% saw no viable alternative. The report also found that the agency-GDS relationship is extremely stable, with 19 years being the average length of time for such a relationship to be maintained.
