Adventure travel “see before you die” list

Experience the Antarctic Peninsula or racing in a Ferrari

NBC presents an ultimate “bucket list” for adventure travel enthusiasts created by the travel and leisure website T+L. Crossing the infamously stormy Drake Passage to reach the penguin colony along the Antarctic Peninsula is worth the risks, the article says. Besides the penguins, travellers usually see humpback and minke whales, leopard and fur seals, cormorants and other seabirds. Visitors can also hike up 285 metre-high Spigot Peak for “awe-inspiring panoramic views of the world’s last great wilderness”. Quark Expeditions’ guided tour from Argentina to Antarctica shows how the toughest journeys are often the most memorable.
In North America, adventures include driving the dramatic Pacific Coast Highway, visiting Yosemite’s Mariposa Grove’s millennia-old sequoias along the way. Thrill-seekers can also experience white-water rafting down the Salmon River in Idaho, heli-skiing in the Bugaboo Mountains in British Columbia, or racing in a Ferrari at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Adventure travel at a gentler pace can include a stay at Campi Ya Kanzi, “a community-owned lodge in eastern Kenya where Masai trackers lead guests through the savanna and cloud forest”.
