Accor communications director caught out with app
A communications director for Accor Hotels in Asia and the Pacific has been caught posting reviews on TripAdvisor that boasted about his own group hotels and were critical about competitors.
Normally TripAdvisor users can post reviews with just a username, but Peter Hook was using the new TripAdvisor Facebook app, which displays reviewers’ real names, photos and location. The online reputation management firm Kwikche spotted that Tavare, a user who has anonymously posted over 100 reviews including five-star reviews for Accor hotels, was in fact Accor executive Peter Hook based in Sydney.
Of many examples, Hook said about Accor’s Sea Temple Surfers Paradise that he “took advantage of a good price and really loved it from start to finish”, while at the Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra he “didn’t know much about the hotel scene so booked a brand I knew well. It turned out to be a good choice.”
But the Park Hyatt Sydney had “very ordinary bar food, high prices and ordinary service” and the InterContinental Adelaide was “stuck in a time warp and rather expensive”.
However, Hook defended his reviews, telling Telegraph Travel, “Every review I have written has resulted from personally experiencing the product.”
