Viking Line launches revolutionary new LNG-powered ship
Another milestone has been reached in the construction of Viking Line’s new vessel, M/S Viking Grace. The ship has been successfully launched at the STX Finland shipyard in Turku and it will now replace M/S Isabella on the Turku-Åland Islands-Stockholm line from January 2013.
M/S Viking Grace represents a completely new generation of ferries with its revolutionary Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) fuel system built by the Finnish manufacturer Wärtsilä. With its LNG powered engines, hydrodynamically optimized hull design and new soundproofing technology, the ship will, according to Viking Line, be the greenest and quietest ferry in the world. The vessel will also have a high-speed wireless internal network used to keep passengers informed and entertained.
