Spike Aerospace S-512 is yours for just $67 million
The “world’s first supersonic business jet” has been designed, promising to cut travel times for wealthy people in half. But buyers will have to be very wealthy indeed.
The Spike Aerospace S-512, created over the last two years by a team of engineers in the US, will reach Mach 1.6 and a top speed of 1,770 km/h. That would cut flight times between New York and London to just three hours. It will cost between $60 and $80 million.
The jet will be able to carry up to 12 or 18 passengers amid luxurious furnishings. Initial take-off is scheduled for December 2018.
“It will save passengers time so they can explore more of the world,” Spike Aerospace says. “Wouldn’t you love to go hiking in New Zealand for the weekend, or fly to Paris for lunch?”
However, the Federal Aviation Administration has banned supersonic flight over the United States, so prospective buyers may have some extensive government lobbying to do before they can travel at such speed.
