“Quantum cruising” era to begin in 2014

Quantum of the Seas scheduled to debut in autumn 2014

Royal Caribbean’s new Project Sunshine ships will be named Quantum of the Seas, scheduled to debut in autumn 2014, and Anthem of the Seas, which will follow in spring 2015. The two vessels will be part of what the cruise line calls a Quantum class of ships.
The line has promised that the new ships will feature a range of new features and attractions, now that it has successfully pioneered new on-board attractions such as ice skating rinks and surf simulators. The first piece of steel was cut for the two ships last week at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, where the two ships will be built.
“The new ship will be such a leap forward in terms of vessel design and guest experiences that we thought the name Quantum of the Seas was perfectly appropriate,” Adam Goldstein, Royal Caribbean International’s president and CEO, said.
