Incident due to miscommunication between pilot and airport

A Vueling aircraft from Malaga, Spain was forced to land at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport yesterday to be boarded by Dutch armed security forces because of fears it had been hijacked. Dutch F-16 fighters were scrambled to intercept the aircraft and guide it in to land. It was a false alarm, however, due to miscommunication between pilot and control tower.
“There was never any danger”, a Vueling spokeswoman told Reuters. “There was a lack of communication between the pilot and the tower and the airport has activated the security protocol.”
Coincidentally, on the same day alarms had already been raised by a separate incident – the discovery of what appears to be an unexploded bomb from World War II.
